SEATTLE, April 25, 2023 (Newswire.com) - World Concern announces a long-term partnership with USA Olympian Sarah Sponcil in a shared vision to inspire and transform the lives of people in the poorest regions around the world that World Concern serves. Sponcil will collaborate with World Concern on a variety of humanitarian initiatives designed to end poverty, and to bring hope and opportunity to some of the poorest and forgotten communities and people around the world.
"We're thrilled that Sarah is partnering with World Concern to change the lives of families and using volleyball as a way to connect with our communities in Kenya. Sarah is a tremendous ambassador for the game and for World Concern and we're thankful for her commitment to end extreme poverty," said Jeremy Reis, Vice President of Marketing for World Concern.
Sponcil's first stop with World Concern will be Kenya where she will travel to Nairobi early in May. Volleyball is the fastest-growing sport in Kenya and throughout the continent of Africa. Kenya is home to a rapidly developing and successful volleyball program, yet the country still struggles with considerable poverty. Partnering with the National Olympic Committee Kenya, the Kenyan National Volleyball team and their coach Paul Bitok, and 2020 Kenyan Olympians Gaudencia Makokha and Brackcides Agala Khadambi, whom Sponcil competed against in Tokyo, and Kenya National Team star Veronica Adhiambo, they will be conducting volleyball clinics and exhibition matches in some of the most poverty-stricken schools in Nairobi and remote villages in Kenya.
"I am so grateful to be partnering with World Concern on this incredible journey.'" said Sponcil. "Volleyball's international governing body, the FIVB, has a stated goal, which I wholeheartedly support, to make volleyball the #1 sport in the world that serves the needs of family through social development and humanitarian programs. We are privileged as professional athletes, but with that privilege comes a tremendous obligation. Our profession and success on the field of competition bring recognition and opportunity, but what we do off that field is what truly matters. Sports have proven repeatedly throughout history to be the ultimate bridge, bringing people of all nationalities, ethnicities, and religious beliefs together, in harmony. Sports have given countless youth a sense of purpose and belonging and allowed them to escape from poverty, gang affiliations, addiction, and other dire circumstances. In effect, giving countless children hope and opportunity. World Concern has a long and successful history in Kenya, helping to bring education, clean water, hope, and opportunity to the poorest of communities and people throughout the country. Transforming lives. I feel incredibly fortunate to be in such blessed company."
