Dan Parker, the blind race car driver who holds the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS® title for Fastest Speed for a Car Driven Blindfolded, is speaking this month about overcoming adversity.
Dan is sharing his ground-breaking story during National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) this October. “I race to demonstrate what people with disabilities can do, raise expectations, and break barriers in mobility,” said Dan Parker. “I am proud to have shown that a blind person can operate a vehicle safely, even at greater than 200 miles per hour.”
Due to a catastrophic racing accident in 2012, Dan’s life changed forever. After months of recovery, he not only learned how to live as a blind man but also how to continue as a race car driver and machinist. Dan never quit pursuing his dream and worked to become the world’s fastest blind man, earning the Guinness World Record.
People with visual impairment face an unemployment rate of greater than 70% in the United States and an even higher rate worldwide. “Please join my mission to accelerate accessibility,” said Dan. “Together we can build awareness of ways to open doors for employment and other opportunities for people with challenges,” said Dan.
The motto Dan lives by is: You can make excuses or make it happen. Dan aims to inspire blind people and others to never give up –no matter what the challenge.
