Men’s Health Month focuses on health disparities affecting men and boys year-round.

Men don’t always take their health too seriously because they feel good and they are fine. This is a big factor for men dying younger and living less healthy lives.”

— Ana Fadich-Tomsic, VP of Men’s Health Network

WISCONSIN, UNITED STATES, June 3, 2022 /EINPresswire.com/ — The state of Wisconsin and the cities of Sioux City, Dubuque, Milwaukee, and Madison have issued Men’s Health Month proclamations (June) celebrating men’s health and fatherhood year-round, helping educate men, boys, and their families about disease prevention, timely screenings, healthy lifestyles, and positive family relationships.

Governor Tony Evers, Mayor Robert E. Scott, Mayor Cavalier Johnson, Mayor Brad Cavanagh and Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway’s proclamations can be found here.

Raising awareness of the need for men and boys to live healthy lifestyles is critical to their wellbeing, even more so with COVID still impacting families and everyday lifestyles. The life expectancy for men is five years less than women (1), and men also have higher rates of death from cancer, diabetes, and heart disease (2). Moreover, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports women are 100% more likely to visit their doctor for annual exams and preventative services than men (3).

Report cards on the status of male health in each state can be found at the MensHealthReportCard.com Proclamations from cities and states be found at www.MensHealthMonth.com

“I am proud to recognize Men’s Health Awareness Month, which provides an opportunity to raise awareness of a wide variety of health issues that disproportionately affect men and boys and encourage them to be role models of health for their families, friends, and neighbors,” said Gov. Evers. “During this month, we affirm our commitment as a state to eliminating barriers to healthcare access for men and encourage folks to take care of their mental and physical health.”

“It’s important that we raise awareness of the health issues facing men and help educate the public about the importance of preventative healthcare,” said Mayor Robert E. Scott.

“I want Milwaukee to be a healthier community, and increasing awareness about men’s health is a good step forward,” said Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson. “I want to empower people here to focus on their own health. That benefits individuals and benefits the entire city.”

“We applaud officials in their states for helping raise awareness of the health issues facing men and their families by recognizing this year’s men’s health awareness period,” said Ana Fadich, MPH, CHES, Vice President, Men’s Health Network. “Communities around the globe continue to promote the health and well-being of men and boys throughout the month of June. We hope this year’s awareness period will help men and their families be more mindful of their health starting with a doctor’s appointment.”

Across the country, hundreds of health care professionals, private corporations, faith-based organizations, community groups, government agencies, and other interested organizations help plan activities and events that focus on men’s health during June, and throughout the year.

June 17, the Friday before Father’s Day, is Wear Blue Day. People all over the world take pictures of themselves and others wearing blue to increase awareness of men’s health and post photos on social media with the #ShowUsYourBlue hashtag. Also, make sure you #WearBlueForMen and don’t forget to tag Men’s Health Network on social media.

MHN encourages participation in using the #ShowUsYourBlue hashtag on social media where participants raise awareness about men’s health issues by Wearing BLUE.

Men’s Health Month grew out of National Men’s Health Week, which was enacted by Congress. The legislation was sponsored by Senator Bob Dole and Congressman Bill Richardson and was signed into law by President Bill Clinton on May 31, 1994.

Men’s Health Month and Men’s Health Week are organized by Men’s Health Network MHN), an international non-profit organization whose mission is to reach men, boys, and their families where they live, work, play, and pray with health prevention messages and tools, screening programs, educational materials, advocacy opportunities, and patient navigation. On May 28, 2024, Epoch Studios is screening their first ever film, "The Firing Squad," in Phoenix, AZ. Select local faith and community leaders, as well as members of the media and other guests, will have the opportunity to preview the powerful story of redemption ahead of the nationwide release on August 2, 2024.

Based on a profound true story of finding hope in the face of death, celebrated Christian filmmaker Tim Chey’s “The Firing Squad” follows the story of three convicted criminals who were sentenced to be executed by firing squad in an Indonesian prison camp in 2015. As the countdown to their deaths begins, a remarkable sequence of events unfolds, which drew international attention to the transformative power of faith and hope that transcends our darkest moments.

"The Firing Squad" promises a thought-provoking cinematic experience, starring prominent actor Kevin Sorbo (“God’s Not Dead” and “Let There Be Light”) alongside breakout star James Barrington. Talent is available for Phoenix area interviews in conjunction with the May 28, 2024 screening. A trailer of the film is available for viewing at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PSsOE7WwsZ8

“At its core, this film is a story of courage, resilience and the transformative power of salvation through Jesus Christ,” said Chey. “I’m an evangelist first and a filmmaker second. Beyond mere entertainment, I pray the film will serve as a catalyst for introspection, compelling audiences to embrace the grace and love of Jesus Christ.”

The creators of the film want to see it win 1 million souls to Christ.

Sorbo, a vocal advocate for family friendly entertainment, has emphasized the importance of supporting faith-based projects like The Firing Squad.

“In today’s entertainment landscape, it’s crucial that we rally behind projects that uphold Christian values and share stories of faith,” said Sorbo. “We have a battle to win in Hollywood. Films like this are powerful tools for spreading messages of hope and inspiration.”
